I've been playing Fender basses for a long time now, I even state in my player profile that I play '...the definitive mainstays of bass guitar... ...to capture the essential bottom and fullness of a consistent and honest bass sound..!' Those mainstays being Fender Jazz and Precision basses, of which I have some beauties!! However, skip to new bass day, and something almost Jeff Berlin-y seems to be happening... So what's with this thing.?
Pretty standard woods, alder body, maple neck and rosewood fingerboard. Added to this combo is a super high quality Bartolini split coil pickup that provides an unmistakable vintage sound delivering a balanced precision tone with slightly warmer bass and low mid growl..! Flatwound strings of course..
A solid Babicz bridge provides optimal stability and sustain and the lightly rolled, 9.45" radius fretboard feels great in the hand for smooth playing. There's also a nice grain to the headstock which helps the vintage slightly aged look and feel of this bass..
It's a Cort if you hadn't already picked up on that but not a new or off the shelf model - It's a custom job that not only looks, feels, plays and sounds the absolute business it's also a good deal lighter than my Fender Precisions, (hence the tweedy strap not my usual thick padded leathers)... I really like this thing and keep grabbing it from the rack... Could this mean something??
Time will tell but this beast is rapidly becoming my go to P-Bass!!
