We're in the middle of a re-think about the future of our specialist skillset and creative offering as a whole.
AI is rapidly transforming sound and image media, shifting from a tool for simple optimization to a core creative partner in production, post-production, and consumption. Key applications include generative music, AI-driven audio-visual synchronization, and advanced image enhancement.
Here are some of the key considerations regarding AI and the future of our area of expertise...
AI in Sound and Music
- Music Generation & Composition: AI tools like AIVA and MuseNet generate novel music tracks by learning from existing music, offering a third option between licensing music and hiring composers.
- Audio Enhancement & Cleaning: Tools like Adobe Podcast use AI to make voice recordings sound as if they were recorded in a professional studio.
- Sound Design & Effects: Generative AI, such as Adobe Firefly, creates custom, royalty-free audio for sound effects, allowing users to create specific, immersive ambiances quickly.
- Sound Separation: AI enables the separation of audio sources, making audio more usable for editing and filtering, a capability in which machines are beginning to surpass human audio processing.
- Automatic Composition: AI platforms like Adthos can create fully produced audio ads from a single image, accelerating content creation for marketers.
AI in Image and Video Media
- Video Generation & Editing: Tools like Kling 2.5 Turbo and Runway are used to generate video content from text or image prompts.
- Image-to-Sound Conversion: Emerging AI can analyze visual scenes (like video stills) and automatically generate accompanying, accurate soundscapes, bridging the gap between sight and sound.
- Avatar & Lip Sync: Technologies such as HeyGen create "talking photo" AI, where static images are animated to match provided audio or text.
- Visualizing Sound: Researchers are developing AI that turns sound recordings into accurate, real-world images (e.g., turning traffic noise into a city scene), providing new ways to analyze urban environments.
Key Trends and Impacts
- Enhanced Realism: New models like Veo offer increased control, consistency, and realism across both audio and visual media.
- Increased Efficiency: AI reduces the time for tasks like video editing, color grading, and sound mixing, allowing creators to focus on high-level creative decisions (sometimes referred to as the "30% rule," where AI handles 30% of repetitive tasks).
- Ethical and Legal Considerations: The use of AI raises questions regarding copyright, with the US Copyright Office ruling that works created solely by AI cannot be copyrighted, though combined human/AI works might be. Furthermore, there is a push for "non-generative" AI that enhances rather than replaces human-created assets.
- Audiovisual Integration: Future AI systems are being designed to process both audio and visual information simultaneously, simulating human sensory perception.
So with all this in mind, what are the next steps for DrewCreate?
The current website is pre-decision so everything you see here is as always was. What we're contemplating is a grand overhauling modernisation to include certain AI elements and possibilities, yet to be integrated. So, although the website and our offering needs updating, we are still in the process of deciding the right direction.
Please bear with us, we are still us and we still do all we do - we are just aiming for an up-shift to keep us in the game.. 😉
